Google Chrome enters the battle of the browsers...

...in a clumsy way, but with a faster and cooler browser than Firefox and Explorer. (Actually Chrome has some baby flaws - it is really only a beta version!)
(Update: check the comments)

It seems like a very nice browser and when Chrome was launched yesterday two of my Messenger buddies instantly recommended it. I was very impressed and considered making it my standard browser, but now I am glad I didn't.

Some guy actually read and understood the Terms of Service (sic!!) which basically gives Google every rights to use and monetize anything you post through their browser.

The text goes under paragraph 11. Content license from you: “By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.”

Google hasn't yet responded to the worrying critics of their Terms of Service.

Until they change it I won't use the Chrome browser any more after this post, which google can happily distribute if they wish...

  1. Firefox Fanboy already told me that Firefox IS fastest, surprise!?
And that Google are already working to remove the Section 11. See, that's fast damage control.

So, let the browser battle begin!

Meanwhile I can give you the browser stats of this blog:
    Internet Explorer 61.36%
    Firefox 30.68%
    Safari 7.95%

But the times they are a-changin'

  2. "We are so, so happy with Google Chrome," mumbled Mozilla CEO John Lilly through gritted teeth. "That most of our income is from Google has no bearing on me making this statement." http://notnews.today.com/?p=57

  4. That section 11 is a classic Google trademark... I love their services and fill them with personal information they can sell to the highest bidder... but I think I will stick with the fox on this one :-)

  5. Section 11 now goes:
"You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services."

The flames this legal mistake caused is a power demonstration of the immense army of free beta testers that Google holds.

@ David: that's black humor on your anti-news site!
@ Oskar: maybe you can still make a special agreement with Chrome that they CAN sell your personal information!?

  6. The browser stats of this blog has already changed. Yesterday stats (mostly on the Chrome post which of course colours the demographic open source):
    1. Firefox 33 49.25%
    2. Explorer 16 23.88%
    3. Safari 16 23.88%

Chrome is not yet listed as a browser in Analytics.
It seems Chrome visitors count as Safari according to the test on this french site.
